Email is "inherently insecure". When it was originally created/designed it was never intended to have any security built-in. But, all that has changed in this current age of general Hacking, Mass Surveillance, Snooping, Illegal Warrant-less Electronic Surveillance, etc.
You can now utilize several different "Secure" Email Services or use "extensions" to add to your Browser to "enable" the use of "encryption" in your email.
/// Things to Check in your Email to DETECT ANY signs of "Hacking" ///
Set your message body as "Plain Text", to protect you from things "embedded" into your email via HTML or JavaScript. It's a precaution to take, that's Free!
Email Phishing -- Common Forms of gathering Information from naive and Ignorant users!
Cyber criminals DISGUISE themselves as your TRUSTED Bank, Email Provider, Employer, Phone Co., Social Media Provider, etc. to LURE you into given them your "Personal Information" !! Anything requesting "Login" Credentials is BOGUS !!
- NEVER Click on ANY Links or "unknown" attachments.
- NEVER Provide Login Credentials or ANY personal information!
/// You can DETECT "nefarious" activity in your emails, by checking for the following:
-- Check for Grammatical Errors
-- Check Source Email Addresses NOT assigned to the Trusted Co.
-- Urgent Calls to Action requesting Login Credentials or Personal information
-- Check Links for Domain to see that its NOT the same as the Co. sending the email
Highly recommend ProtonMail Secure/Encrypted Email Service:
All emails are secured automatically with end-to-end encryption. This means even we cannot decrypt and read your emails. As a result, your encrypted emails cannot be shared with third parties.
ProtonMail is incorporated in Switzerland and all our servers are located in Switzerland. This means all user data is protected by strict Swiss privacy laws.
Anonymous Email - Protect Your Privacy
No personal information is required to create your secure email account. By default, we do not keep any IP logs which can be linked to your anonymous email account. Your privacy comes first.
Zero Access to User Data
Your encrypted data is not accessible to us ProtonMail's zero access architecture means that your data is encrypted in a way that makes it inaccessible to us. Data is encrypted on the client side using an encryption key that we do not have access to. This means we don't have the technical ability to decrypt your messages, and as a result, we are unable to hand your data over to third parties. With ProtonMail, privacy isn't just a promise, it is mathematically ensured. For this reason, we are also unable to do data recovery. If you forget your password, we cannot recover your data !!
